Jack Burns was an American writer, actor, and comedian.
Kicking off his career as part of a comedy team with George Carlin, Burns would go on to act in The Andy Griffith Show, The Ghost & Mrs. Muir, Happy Days, The Partridge Family, and Love, American Style.
He met his next comedy partner, Avery Schreiber, at Chicago's Second City comedy troupe, and the duo went on to record several comedy albums and appear on numerous television variety shows.
Burns was one of the original writers and producers of The Muppet Show and also wrote for Hee Haw, The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour, The Kraft Music Hall, and specials for Flip Wilson, Sandy Duncan, and Paul Lynde.
In 1976, Burns was nominated for two Primetime Emmys: one for Outstanding Comedy-Variety or Music Series and another for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy-Variety or Music Series, both for The Muppet Show.
From 1980 to 1982, Burns was a writer/producer and announcer on ABC's late night sketch comedy series Fridays.
Burns died January 27, 2020, in Toluca Lake, California. He was 86.
